Before the cloud, before firewalls, before remote support, VoIP and fibre lines – there were cash registers.
That’s where our story begins. In 1984, Rand Data Systems was born with a screwdriver in one hand and a vision in the other. Back then, we were helping local businesses with the nitty-gritty; repairing cash registers, replacing worn-out keys, fixing faults others couldn’t. It was a different world but the mission was the same as it is today: support good people, build lasting systems and always showing up when it matters most.
That legacy was built by Mr Hans Dubber, technician, founder and the kind of leader who didn’t just build a company, he built a culture. Of commitment. Of precision. Of loyalty. Of looking after clients like they were family. He didn’t believe in shortcuts and never turned down a challenge. For decades, he led Rand Data Systems with quiet grit and hands-on care. Until his passing in 2024.
We lost our founder, our compass, our spark. But what he built didn’t stop, it carried forward. And it carried strong.
Because legacy doesn’t live in the past. It moves with us. It shows up in the way we answer the phone, the way we solve problems, the way we train, build, listen and deliver.
And it showed up, powerfully in what happened next.
2024 was the kind of year you never forget. We crossed the 40 year milestone; four decades of grit, growth and going the distance for our clients. We felt the sting of deep personal loss, saying goodbye to Mr Hans Dubber, the man who started it all with a cash register and a vision. But even through the grief, we kept going. We honoured him the only way we knew how: by showing up, by levelling up, by achieving a 33% revenue growth in a single financial year. That wasn’t luck. That was legacy in motion.
Our reach stretched further than ever before. From Cape Town to Johannesburg and Durban, and across borders to England, France and Mozambique, we delivered some of our most impactful projects to date. From national restaurant groups and luxury hotels, to lodges, realtors, healthcare providers and beyond, we didn’t just support our clients, we helped them thrive.
The foundation was solid. The demand was growing. And one thing became clear: Some services needed more room to grow.
Our Google Workspace deployments had taken off. Backup systems had become business- critical. The cloud was no longer a trend, it was the new standard. And if we are going to keep delivering with the depth, attention and precision that our clients deserve, we have to give these tools a dedicated home.
Launched as the newest arm of the Rand Data Group, Rand Data Web Services is where our most in-demand web services live, breathe and evolve. It’s where Google Workspace migrations, training and support are handled by specialists. Where secure, intelligently designed backup systems are implemented with intention because a quick fix isn’t protection, a proper plan is. And now, it’s where websites are built and cared for with intention. Because a webpage isn’t something you ‘set and forget’, it’s a living part of your business that demands updates, security and ongoing attention. That’s what keeps it visible, secure and working as hard as you do.
Rand Data Web Services isn’t a departure from Rand Data Systems. It’s a continuation. A sharpening. A deliberate step forward. It’s built on the same foundation, powered by the same team and driven by the same commitment: real people, real service, real solutions.
We didn’t create this because it was trendy. We created it because it was time.
Because when our clients grow, we grow with them. And because some legacies deserve more than memory, they deserve momentum.
To the clients who’ve stood by us for decades – thank you.
To those just joining – welcome.
To the late Mr Hans Dubber – this one’s for you.
